Two days ago in Santiago de Compostela the official celebration of Holy Year 2010 ended as the Archbishop sealed the Puerta Santa of the cathedral. That special door used by pilgrims to directly visit the Apostle's tomb will not be opened until the next Holy Year in 2021. Many of us who were pilgrims this year will never again pass through the Puerta Santa as age and time take their toll. Hopefully our personal memories will endure.
I am sincerely thankful for the opportunity to have walked the Camino these past six times,
for my own extraordinary good luck, growing strength and intense determination to endure, for strangers' gracious offers of help and other kindnesses, and for fellow pilgrims' shared conversations and meals. What a mixture!

........Luiza said...Walking in winter is admirable and by writing your Blog you have become an inspiration to others. However, a few consecutive nights of freezing albergues would see me staying in hostals to thaw out. Over the past two days I have shivered while reading your stories of snow covered mountain crossings and the need to wear your woolly cap to bed. I am still shivering.
My heart broke reading about the first of three 100 Euros you generously gave the Brazilian guy. I predicted the outcome. It was wonderful when a woman came to your aid when your debit card did not dispense cash.
I have enjoyed viewing your photos and reading your stories. I recognize many of the stops and it is good to have another view of the Camino Francés.
